Dr. Catherine E. Wolf
MD, MPH
Founder and Executive Director
Board Member Since 2006
Dr. Wolf grew up in New Jersey and is a lifetime member of Kingston Presbyterian Church in Kingston, NJ. From a young age, she had a desire to be a missionary physician in a less developed country. She first went to Haiti as a student at Wheaton College, IL and spent three months working with missionaries under Worldteam mission. She worked with them again as a medical student at Northwestern University School of Medicine and applied to Worldteam to become a fulltime missionary when she finished her internal medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. From 1982 – 1987 and 1990 – 1994 she and nurse friend Cherlie Severe worked at Hopital Lumiere, Bonne Fin, Haiti, several years of which she was the Medical Director of the hospital. She and Cherlie returned to Milwaukee in 1994 but maintained close connections to Haiti and decided to begin a new ministry in the mountains outside the town of Jérémie, due to the severe medical needs in that area. With no other mission organizations working in the same region, she founded Friends for Health in Haiti in 2006 and returned with Cherlie to live in Haiti and direct the ministry.Ralph B. Minor

Rev. Sharyl Dixon
Board Member Since 2023
For 31 years, Sharyl (rhymes with Carl) has served churches and communities in Northern California, Aberdeen, Scotland, Brooklyn NY, Upper Bucks County PA and presently as pastor in the village of Kingston, NJ, (where Dr. Katie grew up).
Sharyl is passionate about hearing & learning people’s stories, connecting people and their faith while serving neighbors and making sure others know God’s love. She is a mentor, coach, consultant, workshop leader, retreat speaker and empowers the next generation of pastors working with seminarians at Princeton Theological Seminary. God has also given Sharyl a heart for the world. Over the years she has been engaged and active in supporting mission partners locally and abroad. Her love for God’s people and work has called her to visit and work alongside mission partners in Scotland, France, Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Uganda, and Haiti. She is honored to serve on the Board of Friends For Health in Haiti.
Aside from being a Presbyterian Pastor, Sharyl is a proud aunt, loves to read, kayak and test new recipes. She also finds great joy being married to Philadelphia’s favorite John Adams historical interpreter, Peyton Dixon and taking walks with their rescue dog, Baxter.

Cherlie Severe, RN
Nursing Director
Cherlie grew up in Jérémie, Haiti and went to the Haitian University Nursing School in Port-au-Prince for her nursing education. At the end of her studies, she was assigned by the government to do her nursing “residency”, then a two-year commitment, at Hopital Lumiere, Bonne Fin, Haiti. Hopital Lumiere was a large mission hospital run by Worldteam mission and the Haitian MEBSH church, located in a mountain area near Cayes in south Haiti. There she worked with and became friends with Dr. Catherine Wolf, who was a missionary physician at the hospital. Cherlie was the Head Nurse on the medical floor and became the Assistant Director of Nursing during her time there (1981 – 1987, 1990 – 1994). She came to Milwaukee with Dr. Wolf in 1994 and worked as an RN at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee until they returned to Haiti in 2006 after founding Friends for Health in Haiti. She is the Director of Nursing at Centre de Sante de Gatineau and co-directs the clinic and community development programs with Dr. Wolf.
