Where, Exactly is Home?

We talk about coming “home” to the US but the reality is that “home” for Cherlie and me is actually where our work and our ministry lies, in Haiti.

We sat in the comfort and security of the US for nearly two months, grateful for the love of friends and family, good food and relaxing times, the opportunity to attend our successful fund-raising banquet in Milwaukee and time to take care of various medical and dental appointments.

But, the area around Jérémie, where we live and work, remained quite stable during this time, without any of the violence and gang activity that has characterized Port-au Prince. So, after prayerful consideration, we decided that it was time to go “home” again, back to Haiti and our clinic and ministry.

Our home in Jérémie
Our benches have been full since our return.

We were able to get a flight from Miami to Cap Haitien on Sunrise Airways on Monday, May 13th and after a 6-hour delay, we landed back on Haitian soil.

We missed the flight from Cap Haitien to Cayes but there were enough people who needed to go to Cayes that they put on a special flight at 5pm to take us there.

We then waited several hours for a driver to come get us at the Cayes airport and drive us two hours to our home in Jérémie.

As wonderful and comfortable as it was to be in our US home, it was even better to get back to our Haiti home! We re-opened the clinic on May 20th and our patients are thrilled to have us back. Thanks to all of you for your prayers during our travels.
